Greetings,
We hope everyone is doing well.
Summer Camp Update
We are once again offering a free summer camp at the Happy Day Services building for individuals ages 6 to 21 who are eligible for Portage DD services. The program runs for seven weeks, from June 8, 2026, through July 31, 2026, with no camp scheduled for the week of June 29th. Participants may attend for a maximum of four weeks. While the camp is currently full, registration remains open for our waiting list should spots become available. Please visit the link below for more information: www.gotcamp.org
Farewell to Eric Ferguson
We have bittersweet news to share regarding Eric Ferguson. After 36 dedicated years in the Portage DD maintenance department, Eric retired on May 31st. He has been a fantastic coworker, always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need. We were fortunate to work alongside him for so many years, and we wish him all the best in his well-deserved retirement. Congratulations, Eric!
Financial Update
Lastly, we want to provide an update regarding our current financial situation. Over the past three years, we have experienced a significant increase in waiver costs, with no current signs of these expenses leveling off. To manage this, we have reduced or cut certain programs and have strategically left positions vacant following retirements or resignations—four positions have been left unfilled so far in 2026.
We are working hard to preserve our essential services. While we are exploring potential adjustments, no definitive changes have been made to address these rising costs. We remain committed to being responsible stewards of the levy funds entrusted to us by the residents of Portage County, and we deeply appreciate the continued trust and support you have shown to Portage DD.
Believe in People!
WE ARE HERE FOR YOU.
Sincerely, John Vennetti
