Message From The Superintendent – May 2026

Greetings!

We hope everyone is doing well!

We will once again be offering a free summer camp at the Happy Day Services Building for anyone between the ages of 6 and 21 who is eligible for Portage DD services. There will be seven weeks of camp, with a maximum allowance of four weeks per person. The camp starts June 8, 2026, and ends July 31, 2026. Please note there is no camp during the week of June 29th. Registration is still open, but the camp is currently full. You can still be placed on a waiting list in case a spot opens. See the link below for more information:

We want to introduce our newest Portage DD staff member, Danny Campbell, who was hired on April 27, 2026. Danny has previous SSA experience and served as an Investigative Agent at the Mahoning County Board of DD. Danny holds a Bachelor’s degree in Applied Science from Ashford University and a Master’s degree in Public Health from Kent State University. Welcome, Danny!

Although we are glad Danny is here, we are sad to say goodbye to Jim Bobek, SSA. He will retire on May 31st from Portage DD after more than 11 years of service. He is a great coworker and a wonderful SSA and person. We were fortunate to be on the same path all these years, and we wish him happiness on his journey into retirement. Congratulations, Jim!

We want to thank everyone who showed up for our annual Limitless Art Show on April 28th. We had a great community turnout and appreciated everyone who came out to support these incredible artists and their amazing work. We also want to thank the Portage DD staff who worked diligently throughout the year to make this event better each time. Thank you!

Lastly, we want to thank the Knights of Columbus for sponsoring the 35th annual Special Olympics Bowling Invitational on April 18th at Spins Bowl. Thank you!

Believe in People!

WE ARE HERE FOR YOU.

Sincerely,

John Vennetti
