Message From The Superintendent - July 2025
Greetings!
We hope everyone is doing well.
Portage Industries Inc. has its annual golf outing. The money from this outing goes to support the Portage DD Levy. This year's outing will be on Tuesday, July 22, at Windmill Lakes. Thank you, Portage Industries, Inc.!
On July 26, 1990, The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) was established. The ADA is a landmark civil rights law that prohibits discrimination against individuals with disabilities in all areas of public life, ensuring they have the same rights and opportunities as everyone else. For the children and adults with developmental disabilities served by Portage DD, the ADA is a critical tool for empowerment and inclusion. This federal law mandates equality in employment, education, transportation, and access to public and private spaces. This means that individuals with conditions such as autism, Down syndrome, or cerebral palsy are legally protected from discrimination when seeking a job, attending school, or participating in community activities. The ADA requires employers to provide reasonable accommodations, ensures that public buildings and transportation are accessible, and guarantees that individuals with disabilities can access the programs and services offered by government entities. Ultimately, the ADA provides a legal foundation for the Portage County Board of DD's mission to support individuals in living, learning, working, and socializing as valued community members, breaking down barriers and fostering a more equitable society for all.
We have completed three weeks of our Portage DD Trailblazer camp. We have four more weeks to go in July! We extend our gratitude to the Portage DD Trailblazer Camp staff for your dedication and hard work this summer. Your commitment to creating a fun, safe, and inclusive environment has provided campers invaluable opportunities to build friendships, learn new skills, and create lasting memories. The energy and compassion you bring each day do not go unnoticed, and your efforts in fostering independence and joy in every child are making a difference in our community. Thank you for another wonderful camp season filled with adventure and growth.
